I would like to welcome all visitors to this Website which is devoted to the founding father of modern Theravada Buddhism. Anagarika Dhamapala's claim to fame does not solely rest on his important mission to reform 19th century South Asian Buddhism. Not only did he single- handedly halt the long-term decline of Buddhism, but he was also responsible for bringing the Dhamma west to Europe and beyond. Of itself this would be a major contribution but it must be remembered that he also played a pivotal role as a social and educational reformer in colonial Ceylon. As a part of the celebration of the 150th anniversary of his birth, on this juncture, to mark this event launching this Website is indeed an admirable work.
